Shrimps are decapod crustaceans with long, slender bodies and an essentially benthic swimming mode of movement - most frequently Caridinae and Dendrobanchia. More narrowly defined categories may be limited to either Caridinae, of either group or only the freshwater species. There are at least eight known types of shrimp, three of which are described here. They range in size from the smallest ones that can be seen in water all over the world to those that reach lengths of about four inches in length. Shrimp are also called tunicates. They are divided into three subspecies: the terrestrial species, which live on land; the aquatic species, which live in brackish water; and the suborder marine, which live in the ocean.
