High Prevalence of Obesity and Diabetes and Increasing Health Awareness to Augment Growth of Apple Fiber Market

Apple fiber is a dietary supplement made from the skin and seeds of the apple tree. An apple is actually an edible fruit grown by an apple tree. Apple trees are widely grown all over the world and are the second most common species in the apple genus, following only the crab. Apple fiber is taken from the inner bark of the apple tree as the fruit develops. The outer skin of the apple is left on for a short time so that it will naturally begin to ferment (or apple cider to be exact). It can take from one to twelve months to ripe for use as a supplement.

The health benefits of apple fiber were first reported in 1998 by a group of scientists at the University of Reading. They reported that apple cider vinegar helped lower the amounts of bad LDL cholesterol in the body as well as high density lipoprotein, which are the more dangerous kind of cholesterol. These two substances are considered to be risk factors for heart disease. Other studies have since confirmed these results, proving that apple fiber really does reduce your risk.

Market Dynamics
High prevalence of obesity and diabetes and increasing health awareness is expected to propel growth of the apple fiber market. For instance, according to the study, “Global and regional diabetes prevalence estimates for 2019 and projections for 2030 and 2045: Results from the International Diabetes Federation Diabetes Atlas, 9th edition”, published in the journal Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, in September 2019, 463 million people are expected to suffer from diabetes in 2019 worldwide and the number is expected to reach 578 million by 2030 and 700 million by 2045.

Increasing demand for organic food products and beverages is expected to offer lucrative growth opportunities for players in the apple fiber market. For instance, according to 2019 Organic Industry Survey by the Organic Trade Association, Organic food sales in the U.S. increased 5.9% in 2018 to reach US$ 47.9 billion and organic food sales made up 5.7% of overall food sales, which rose 2.3% in 2018.
